Inez Science and Technology Magnet Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
Inez Science and Technology Magnet Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
Government, business and education partnership creates new multimedia science and technology lab at an Albuquerque Elementary School.

"I love the way it’s structured, everything is so well thought out. The children soon learn to use it independently as they work through the tutorials that guide them, they really love the little green alien that guides them through all the activities." Lucia Mancha  - Class Teacher

Fowler High School, Syracuse, NY
Fowler High School, Syracuse, NY
Fowler High School Center for math, science and technology has been created to find new ways of meeting MST Standards.

The ScanTEK lab is based around the following modules, Space Technology, Computer Applications, Computer Aided Design and Research and Design.

After careful consideration and matching their objectives to those of the ScanTEK modules, a team of two math teachers and two science teachers came up with that selection of modules because they integrate the most amount of math and science, as well as meeting the AIDE specifications. In addition to this they have incorporated ScanMATH with these modules to provide automatic math remediation.

"Teachers like the amount of integrated skills such as math, science and literacy. They also like the fact that the modules address students of all levels of academic skills and that the modules are task oriented and objective based. They felt that the curriculum seemed to be very well thought out. They also liked the fact that the program offers flexibility, in respect to creating and modifying the curriculum, and that the quality of the equipment seemed to be very good" Helen Doerr  - Project Consultant

Belle Haven Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
Belle Haven Elementary School, Albuquerque, NM
At Belle Haven Elementary School in Albuquerque, NM, they have turned an old storage room into a new multimedia science lab that students just can’t wait to get into. According to the ScanTEK Lab teacher Ron Kolenda, the youngsters just love the variety of experiments and the colorful learning materials that feature "Lenia – the talking alien". She guides the students through the exciting experiments and helps them learn more about science.

"One of the things that I find really pleasurable is the way the girls have taken to it. Normally they try to avoid anything technical but I had three groups run in here and sit down at the experiments, you should have seen their faces, “we don’t want to do this” they said. I said “go ahead, give it a try,” and they just loved it. Two girls were doing the Solar cell experiment and when they had worked out what to do with the switch they screamed out and pulled me over to show me how it worked!” “It’s not just improving their science skills,” he commented but it’s helping build their independent learning skills and their IT Skills. I even notice it impacting on their reading skills. This is particularly true of the second graders who are working right on the edge of their reading ability, but the more they work with this system the better their reading gets. I think it’s because they can see the words on the screen and click the voice button to hear it read out as many times as they like. They also have to write lots of the same words in their workbooks and that really helps. It will be interesting to see how it effects the standardized science tests they take, it definitely helped with their reading!" Ron Kolenda  - Lab Teacher

Sandwich Technology College, Sandwich, Kent
Sandwich Technology College, Sandwich, Kent
At Sandwich Technology School they have recently moved into a purpose built managed learning room, this accommodation is part of the school development but the equipment has been built up over the last 3 years.

"We run 22 ScanTEK modules all with the full 40 hour course material, these are delivered to year 7 and 8 as full form groups. We have tried to use modules that give a broad introduction to the world of technology as well as help cover the national curriculum, particularly in the systems and control area. When pupils reach year 9 they have ScanTEK delivered as part of their Technology rotation and are taught individually with group sizes around 20. A course profile has been developed to compliment the early start of Design Technology GCSE's in Systems and control, Electronics and resistant materials. These are taught over a full year with students having 50 minutes a week on ScanTEK.

The ScanTEK laboratory is clean, efficient and well run, and as such is treated with great respect in the school, pupils enjoy ScanTEK, they enjoy computer based learning and I believe it is starting to develop more independent learners at Sandwich Technology School."   Head of Technology - Jon Boyes

Collingwood College, Camberley, Surrey
Collingwood College, Camberley, Surrey
Collingwood has introduced the ScanTEK Science and Technology program into their lab. The lab uses the computer simulations and the specifically designed equipment to let pupils experience real world technologies. ScanTEK was highly praised by an independent report by the Technology Colleges Trust recently. This praise is supported by schools all over the country including Collingwood.

"Motivation is the key benefit. Pupils really enjoy using ScanTEK and are learning through their enjoyment. It gives them a whole technology experience that goes beyond the National Curriculum"   Technology Teacher - Robin Meakings

North Hull City Learning Centre, Kingston upon Hull
North Hull City Learning Centre, Kingston upon Hull
The new North Hull City Learning Centre, based at Sir Henry Cooper School in Hull was officially opened by Sheilah Burden, Executive Director of Yorkshire and Humberside Learning and Skills Council. The CLC wanted to create a very different environment, where pupils from the local schools and members of the community can have access to a wide range of digital learning resources. As part of their original designs a series of specific zones has been created. Learning materials and resources appropriate to each zone provide students with hands-on activities that span Math, Science, Technology, and IT.

"We selected the LJ equipment because it offers us an integrated range of modules that all operate within VLE and address very broad curriculum areas from Primary level to vocational skills and IT Certification.

The LJ modules were chosen because they address the Maths, Science and Technology areas of Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. They are very motivational with a combination of practical hands-on work and multimedia curriculum delivery. The automatic tracking system with its instant feedback is a great feature, the pupils love getting their scores back as soon as they hand-in a piece of work. IT really motivates them and a lot of the time they ask to have a second go if they think their score was too low"   CLC Director - Dave McCallam
